in Roberts County.

Comanche, Kiowa and other tribes once frequented the area.

The countyseat, Miami, is the name of a tribe that exists today in nearby Oklahoma.

The word Miami is derived from a word that means “friends” or “allies” -- hence, Miami’s nickname “Sweetheart of the Plains.”
